What is Dansk Producentansvar (DPA)?
Denmark's packaging ordinance generally requires anyone who makes packaged goods available on the Danish market to register in the digital producer register and to file an annual packaging report. Dansk Producentansvar (DPA) is the statutory register administrator.
Who is generally obligated
If your Shopify store ships packaged goods to consumers in Denmark — including as a foreign seller established in another EU country or a third country — Danish rules generally treat you as an obligated producent. Shipping and mailer packaging used to deliver an online order is generally included, alongside the product's own packaging.
The 8-tonne line — a reporting simplification, not an exemption
Producers who make available under 8 tonnes of packaging a year may generally choose to file a simplified report — just the total packaging weight, split between household and commercial — instead of a full breakdown by material category. This is a reporting-format choice only. Falling under 8 tonnes does not exempt a producer from registering, reporting, or paying: every obligated producer generally still registers and files an annual report regardless of volume, and can choose the full material breakdown even under the line. What a report covers
The DPA annual report is a weight figure by official Bilag 6 material category, for the previous calendar year. The material categories a full report can cover are:
